APCO-MS CHAPTER RECEIVES AWARD

The Association Of Public Safety Communications Officials MS Chapter takes pride in hard work, dedication and compassion in the field of public safety. They set goals and fulfill them to the best of their ability. Our chapter is dedicated to making the telecommunicator the best they can be by offering education and training that keeps their skills ready for whatever comes their way. This year’s goal was to promote a membership drive to give everyone in the field of public safety the opportunity to join our team of professionals and enhance their skills as a telecommunicator. The APCO-MS Chapter and Board of Emergency Telecommunicator Standards And Training (BETST) have worked together to help us achieve our goal in membership. With these two agency’s working together, Standards And Training has agreed to reimburse the membership dues for the telecommunicator in their agency. APCO-MS Chapter members have sent out several letters to different agency’s and public service answering points, with the intentions of promoting new members in our field.

Just about a week before the Annual International Conference for APCO was to begin the MS Chapter President Brenda Gowdy, received e-mail from international, advising her the MS Chapter had won an award. The e-mail did not specify what the award was for so she got on the phone to inquire about the details. Much to her surprise she was advised the chapter had received the award for the Highest Average Increase In Membership for the year 2006. She then notified her team members about the great news. Everyone’s hard work and dedication to prosper and to achieve the goals they set for their chapter has been fulfilled.

On August 8, 2006 the annual International Conference was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando Florida. The APCO International Board Members and International President Wanda McCarley presented the award to MS Chapter President Brenda Gowdy and Membership Director James Williams.
